30+ years of training has taught us... the shooting environment is totally critical to what you absorb and retain in regard to "firearms instruction"

Course highlight: Fighting Carbine Series

carbine

Often demonized, the AR-15 and similar semi-automatic carbines are in more gun safes across the Unites States than ever before. But despite their infamy in the modern media, there is no denying their ease of use regardless of your physical stamina and their force multiplying effect for the lone defender of the home. Whether you use yours for hunting, personal defense or both, you should have the training to get the rifle into action and to keep the gun running. Shooting, moving, and communicating in team exercises are also a critical component of team tactics and should be developed when you and your friends with AR’s have to consolidate effort and work together. At Texas Pistol & Rifle Academy, you can take the Fighting Carbine Series that consists of multiple courses to give you a firm foundation in weapons handling, movement, and team exercises.

What you get

In the basic class you begin with the fundamentals of marksmanship for the rifle. Much of this work focuses on the basics of good body position around the gun for maximum stability and shooter performance. This enables good zeroing, and creates a muscle memory for getting the gun into action from distance. As the course levels progress, you are groomed as a shooter in all the capabilities of the M4 platform. From distance to room clearing, you get training and exposure to skills that will enhance your capabilities with this rifle. These skills will enhance your ability to run the gun under stress. Shoot house and low light courses enhance your awareness of how to move and use your rifle in enclosed spaces and what types of movements enable to get shots on target in close quarters. As always, the private setting at TPA allows for the student to train in depth to the degree they demonstrate they are digesting the curriculum – you can drink from the water fountain or the firehose.

First vs. Third Person

first

When using the terms first vs. third person you can automatically remember some of what you learned in high school literature class. But here, the context is more direct. Will you save yourself? Or will you wait for someone to save you? Circumstances call for different responses but have you considered what tools you will need, beyond resolve, to help yourself in any situation? Weapons training at Texas Pistol & Rifle Academy is one ingredient in your plan for salvation that starts with taking a first person role in your own defense.

How will you respond?

The training you will receive at TPA in the use of a pistol, bolt action rifle, combat shotgun, or M4 carbine gives you the mental and physical tools you need to solve many of the problems you face from an attacker. Part of this training involves grooming the shooter’s mindset to pursue a positive self-preservation interest to drive their dedication to training and individual practice. Believe it or not, some mindsets you will find in the wild rely heavily on third party pressure to bring relief to an assaulted party. You have to face the fact that some people will not act even to save their own lives. But you can be different. Train at TPA in any of the weapon disciplines and sleep better at night knowing you will be an immediate responder and not have to wait for the first responders to arrive.

Knowledge: The Combat Triad

knowledge

Getting wrapped up in the endless debates about caliber stopping power, what is the best handgun, what rifle would best apply in a certain situation is easy when all you know is gear. Although being a gear guy is a fun and expensive hobby, what if you could buy something that would transcend the type of handgun or caliber you shot? What if you could purchase something that could even transcend weapon systems? When you purchase firearm training at Texas Pistol & Rifle Academy you get a firearms shooting protocol that is designed to help the shooter perform under stress.

The Combat Triad

At Texas Pistol & Rifle Academy, each weapon platform is taught using the combat triad inspired by the military. Modified for efficiency, the TPA combat triad has 3 sides that help the shooter succeed. The base of the triangle is good equipment. You don’t have to be a gear junkie to understand that good equipment is gear that stays out of the shooter’s way. The second side are mental and visual focal points – the mind and eyes have to be somewhere useful when the shot is fired. Finally, the third side is called “sending the bullet” and details the steps the shooter executes to consistently get point of aim, point of impact performance no matter what weapon system they choose. Whether you choose to shoot an M4 carbine, bolt rifle, pistol, or combat shotgun, you will find the training you need to succeed.

Against the grain

grain

A famous photograph is circulating around the internet that shows a lone worker refusing to give the Nazi salute when everyone around him is saluting. Although the pedigree of the non-saluter has been disputed, the facts are that on June 13, 1936 at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg Germany at the launching of the training vessel Horst Wessel, one man refused give the Nazi salute at the launch, folding his arms over his chest. Although it may not seem as brave as charging a machine gun nest, imagine standing among your coworkers, in the height of the power of the Nazi regime, and refusing to comply. Bold is too small a word. Although some identify the man as August Landmesser, and others as Gustav Wegert, there’s no doubt that on that day, one man was incredibly brave and refused to go along with the mob.

What role will you play?

With the resurgence of the assault on the 2nd amendment, all Americans should understand that everyone has a role to play. You will have to decide what yours will be. For some this means arguing with your friends on the internet, for others they may join the NRA, others still will back certain political parties. No matter what side you are on, people are mobilizing right now in the attack and in the defense of the 2nd amendment. Who will win is as undecided as it was during the American Revolution. But the best defense of a right, is the exercise of that right. When you train at Texas Pistol & Rifle Academy, you are exercising the right to bear arms enshrined in the Bill of Rights. The ability to shoot and having the resolve to do so is part and parcel of what it means to be an American. You can do your part by training at TPA with a pistol, shotgun, M4 carbine and bolt rifle. Throughout history, only a people that could defend themselves had the ability to live freely.

Knowledge is light, gear is heavy

It should be no surprise that once again, the wolves who would weaken the U.S. Constitution by eliminating the 2nd amendment are at the door. Gone are the platitudes about common sense gun control. Evidenced by a recent New York Times editorial, the goal of the anti-gun crowd is reflected in their latest headline “To Repeat: Repeal the Second Amendment.” So to what refuge should law abiding citizens who believe in all the rights enshrined in the Bill of Rights go towards in these troubled times? You should go to where countless professionals have gone since time immemorial, to your training.

The Eye of the Storm

Fall to the level of your training and you can fight any battle and face any enemy. How far you fall is dependent upon your training. Train frequently, and in a variety of skills and you will create a nurturing ecosystem of expertise that will help you weather any storm. At Texas Pistol & Rifle Academy, you can train in a variety of weapon systems and evolve into a person who can shoot with a combat mindset no matter what bang stick you place into your hands. The key is frequency and in-depth content, no matter if you shoot a pistol, bolt action rifle, M4 carbine, or combat shotgun. Each repetition of the firing stroke, and each round fired under stress inoculates you to the chaos that may be swirling around you. In the most violent hurricane, the eye is calm. You can be the calm eye of the storm if you invest in your training and put in the hours of work. As you can plainly see, they are after the gear, but no one can steal your training or your mindset, and you can develop these at TPA.
