Mindset

When you enter into our training facility we ask you to approach us with the following attitude. ” If he can do it, i can do it.” This seems like a very simple phrase but once it is looked as closely you can begin to dissect the attitude and out look of a winner, a fighter who believes that the best is possible, that he or she will win as whatever cost. Whatever your weapon of choice may be, hand gun, shotgun, rifle or M4, mindset will be your primary ingredient for your success with us on the range and in life.

Gear Texas Pistol and Rifle Academy to “battle proof” your gear.

The success of any tactical or sporting shooter lies heavily on the gear he has chosen for his task. Handgun shooters and there holsters, M4 shooters and there red dots and long range shooters and there’s scopes, the time to test this equipment is in the training environment. Come see Texas Pistol and Rifle Academy to “battle proof” your gear.

Transitions Weapons Training.

In a transition style of shooting many shooters will make the common mistake of doing a status check on there primary weapons system first. A primary weapon system in our training environment is a tactical shotgun or M4. This a tactical error, WE ALWAYS CHECK THE STATUS OF OUR SECONDARY WEAPONS SYSTEM FIRST! We must know the operational status of our handgun before moving on to our primary….

Natural Point of Aim

Developing a natural point of aim with your M4 is essential for accurate round placement. To many times a shooter will be muscling a gun onto target after each round fired, this leads to in consistencies in shot placement. A shooter, no matter what weapon system they may be operating, handgun, tactical shotgun, M4 or rifle must learn to move there body and not the weapon to achieve a “Natural Point of Aim”.

Accelerated heart rate in the shooting environment

Whatever your weapon of choice may be… Handgun, carbine, rifle or shotgun. Dealing with accelerated heart rate is an issue all shooters must face and one of the primary things that we at Texas Pistol and Rifle Academy focus on. Whether your training with us lies in the tactical division or sporting, your success as a shooter is our primary focus.

Gun Safty – When using or storing a gun

Come out to Texas Pistol & Rifle in Whitewright,TX Robert began giving ‘handgun’ instruction to Law enforcement, military, and civilian shooters. 25 plus years and hundreds of shooters later, this facility has expanded to 15 different ranges designed to support shooting handgun, shotgun, and rifle classes simultaneously.

Know your target and what is beyond.
Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for mishap. Think first. Shoot second.

Know how to use the gun safely.
Before handling a gun, learn how it operates. Know its basic parts, how to safely open and close the action and remove any ammunition from the gun or magazine. Remember, a gun’s mechanical safety device is never foolproof. Nothing can ever replace safe gun handling.

CHL Licensing VS Firearms Training

Proper firearms training can never be replaced by a CHL license and the ability to carry a firearm legally. A person must understand proper firearm manipulation under accelerated heart rate before they can in good conscience carry a firearm and if presented with the need use it, do so in an effective fashion. At Texas Pistol and Rifle Academy we specialize in this process….

Basic Gun Safty

From the time you pick up a firearm, you become a part of a system over which you have complete control. You are the only part of the system that can make a gun safe – or unsafe.

  • ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is  pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.
  • ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. When holding a gun, rest your finger on the trigger guard or along the side of the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger.
  • ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. Whenever you pick up a gun, immediately engage the safety device if possible, and, if the gun has a magazine, remove it before opening the action and looking into the chamber(s) which should be clear of ammunition. If you do not know how to open the action or inspect the chamber(s), leave the gun alone and get help from someone who does.

RUN. HIDE. FIGHT. Surviving an Active Shooter Event

At exactly 59 seconds the gunman, played by an actor, steps into a building, and the door closes. For a second or two we can see that there is a warning on the door about trespassing, and we see the word “handgun.” The full text of the statute cannot be read. If you watched the video (hopefully it will not be taken down), you see that the mock gunman had no qualms about entering the building armed. Though it was a scenario played out according to script and cast with actors, it followed what happens in real life quite well. Criminals have no problem breaking gun laws. The only thing gun laws cause is the law-abiding to be disarmed.
